Georgia AIM Partner Connects Students to Robots, Archaeology for First Lego League Challenge

On Oct. 2, students from Decatur County Schools, Grady County Schools, and Colquitt County Schools visited the Southern Regional Technical College campus as part of their participation in the 2025 First Lego League Challenge. This year’s challenge theme, “Unearthed,” centers around archaeology, making the visit especially relevant.
During their visit, the students met Nathan Lawres, an archaeologist and director at the Antonio J. Waring Jr. Center for Public Archaeology. Lawres shared insights into the life and work of an archaeologist, giving students a first-hand look at what it takes to uncover and study artifacts from the past.
In addition to his presentation, Lawres brought along several artifacts that the students were able to examine. These artifacts will serve as valuable resources for their research projects as they prepare for this year’s First Lego League tournament.
The experience not only enhanced the students’ understanding of archaeology but also sparked their curiosity and excitement for the upcoming challenge. It was a memorable day of learning, discovery, and inspiration on the SRTC campus.
